Hip Impingement

Hip impingement covers a wide range of disorders that occur when the ball and socket of your hip joint does not glide with a smooth motion. This causes the cartilage in your hip to wear away and presents pain during movement. If you are suffering from subtle hip pain during everyday activities, such as sitting for long periods of time or when walking, you may be experiencing early signs of hip impingement.

The following are a group of disorders included in hip impingement:

  • Cross over sign
  • Extra articular impingement
  • Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI)
  • Ischiofemoral impingement
  • Subspinous impingement

These conditions are usually recognizable on X-rays and are often diagnosed by performing a CT or MRI scan. Treatment for these situations varies for each patient. Depending on the severity of your case, a surgical procedure may be needed in order to restore your complete physical motion. Our physicians strive to improve your range of motion with the most effective method possible so that you can get back to your active lifestyle.

If you are experiencing any pain or discomfort in your hip, schedule an appointment with the surgeons at the Hip Treatment Center for a personal consultation to monitor your condition.
